Novels, eh!
As Arthur Kipps stumbles into high society, he develops a profound scepticism of the genteel, morally upright literature favored by the establishment: those righteous fictional tomes being irreverently herded together under the collective banner of the 'nace' novel. At the time, H.G. Wells’ masterful social satire brutally exposed the rigid class divisions and pretensions of Edwardian England. Many decades later, he's still relevant, and still pretty funny too.
Of course, Wells himself rejected those very same 'nace' novel in favor of fictions that tackled the real issues of the day: class mobility, social hypocrisy, and the absurdity of the wealth divide. If, like us, you enjoy literature that refuses to conform, and believe that it should challenge rather than reassure, then this literary t-shirt is a great choice.
